Cornelius Platter Diary Entry
(Union Soldier)

Friday Nov 25th 1864.

Left camp at half past five and took the Irwinton road which place we passed through about 10.a.m. It is the county seat of Wilkinson Co. – a small village – all the principal buildings have been burned. – Went into camp at Sundown 7 mile east of Irwinton at “Poplar Spring Church” – Nothing of interest happened today - distance marched 18 mile – Country broken and soil sandy – Procured a Macon paper today containing Gov [Governor] Browns message which was read by Capt [Captain] [unclear: Vanpelt] to a small knot of us around our camp fire at night.
